Puck skills, shooting, small-area games — after skating is solid.
What it is
Instructional sessions focused on hockey-specific skills: stickhandling, passing, shooting, small-area games, position play. Runs from big-group clinics to elite small-group training companies.
Who it's for
Players in organized hockey with solid skating. The common mistake: kids in skills sessions who would gain more from skating work. Skills training amplifies a skating base — it can't replace one.
Instruction
Group instruction; quality varies widely with coach-to-player ratio and how much each kid actually touches the puck. Watch a session before committing to a series.
Equipment
Full equipment, stick, usually own pucks provided by the program.
Access & cost
Public registration for most; some elite companies run evaluation or invite-only groups — that should be stated up front.
Confirm before you go
- Ratio and reps: how many shots/touches does a kid actually get?
- Level grouping — mixed-level clinics serve nobody well
- Whether it's actually instructional or thinly-supervised scrimmage
🔥 Flame guide: Flame 3–4. Ask the honest question first: does my kid need this, or more skating?
